Ferruginous Flycatcher, April 20th

First recorded on Eocheong Island on April 30th last year (by Nial Moores), the second Ferruginous Flycatcher for South Korea was discovered on Hong Island by Kim Dong-Won on April 17th 2003: this was followed by the third just three days later.

Found by Kawaguchi Sentaro on April 20th, the Eocheong individual was present until April 30th.

The Ferruginous Flycatcher breeds in Nepal, NE Indian subcontinent, SW, W China, and Taiwan, wintering through the Greater Sundas and the Philippines (Robson 2000).

Proving extraordinarily confiding from its second day, the photographs reproduced here clearly show heavily worn remiges and a number of pointed (juvenile) tail-feathers - indicating that this bird is a first-summer.
